Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday, January 22, was unhappy with the criticism of peoples’ beliefs and traditions.
Speaking at Suttur Jatra Mahotsava in Suttur Srikshetra near here, Mr Bommai said uneducated criticism, peoples’ beliefs and traditions will affect the health of society.
Although he did not identify anyone, Bommai said people were free to speak out. But, low-level criticism of others’ beliefs and practices should be strongly condemned, he said.
During his remarks, Bommai also referred to a question posed by reporters earlier in the day about his criticism by Congress leaders. He told reporters he did not want to respond to criticism by descending to the same level.
Mr. Bommai also praised the contribution of religious Mutts to society in different parts of Karnataka.
The Mutts had provided education, food and shelter to the poor without discrimination, he said.
A host of dignitaries including Revenue Minister R. Ashok, Health Minister K. Sudhakar, Primary and Secondary Education Minister BC Nagesh, MPs L. Nagendra and Tanveer Sait, BJP leader BL Santosh and the Seer of Suttur Mutt Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji were also present on the occasion.
