Crown Estate sues Twitter over unpaid rent allegations

Twitter has refused to pay rent to the Crown Estate, the profits of which go to support the UK government, according to a High Court complaint.

The Crown Estate said it had taken legal action against Twitter over rent arrears on office space near Piccadilly Circus in London.

A representative said he had already contacted the social media company about his rent and was currently in talks with bosses there.

It’s one of many occasions Twitter has been taken to court in recent weeks for allegedly failing to pay rent.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported on Monday that a city landlord is suing more than $6.8 million ($5.5 million) that the company allegedly failed to pay for its corporate headquarters.

Also in San Francisco, a commercial landlord is suing the company after it allegedly failed to pay more than $136,000 ($111,000) in rent, CNN reported.

There is also a fourth case in Seattle.

The cases could be part of an even larger series of lawsuits against social media company Elon Musks.

According to reports from December, Musk has stopped paying rent for all Twitter offices around the world, including its headquarters, in an effort to cut costs.

The Crown Estate is one of the biggest landlords in the UK, but the money it earns ultimately goes to the Treasury.

Over the past decade, the Crown Estate has returned approximately $3 billion to the government, which it has been able to use for public services.

This includes many commercial locations in London which are popular offices and shops. This also includes the seabed off the UK coast, which is currently making big money from new offshore wind farms.

Twitter did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
