For a ride that goes the way of the dodo because it was deemed so racist, many people turned out to say goodbye to Splash Mountain on Monday.
Indeed, the slide, which had been in operation since 1992, broke records thanks to the crowds of guests who showed up for one last ride.
Splash Mountain was a fan-favorite attraction for its entire existence, and it was not uncommon for it to have one of the highest expectations in the Magic Kingdom. However, on his last day of operations, the wait time was completely absurd.
Some even waited 220 minutes to say goodbye to the journey.
Just think how many turkey legs, Mickey-shaped pretzels, and $6 Coke one could consume in that amount of time.
If you didn’t know, the ride was based on a segment of the 1946 part-live-action animated film Song of the South. This film has long been accused of employing racial stereotypes in the post-Civil War era.
At least that’s what the complainers have seen. The rest of us saw a log flume where a fox and a bear were trying to catch a cartoon rabbit.
These people certainly seem to enjoy such a racist ride according to progressives that it needs to be removed. (Joe Burbank/Orlando Sentinel/Tribune News Service via Getty Images)Disney first announced the ride will be replaced in 2020
Disney is a company prone to giving in to incremental pressure or diving headfirst into woke politics of its own accord.
So. it shouldn’t have been a shock when they announced in 2020 that they would be replacing the ride. It is about to be converted into a ride called Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. This next incarnation of the ride is based on the 2009 movie The Princess and the Frog.
“The new concept is an inclusive one that all of our guests can connect with and be inspired by, and it’s a testament to the diversity of the millions of people who visit our parks each year,” a Disney spokesperson said in 2020, according to Fox. News.
I’ll translate this for you: “Buzzword, buzzword, buzzword; hey, woke idiots, please don’t get mad at us; buzzword, sign of virtue.
However, despite the announcement, the ride continued to operate for years after this announcement. It wasn’t until Bob Iger returned as the company’s CEO late last year that the company set a final date for the ride’s closure.
Disney postponed closing Splash Mountain for years. However, the return of CEO Bob Iger appears to have set those long-delayed plans in motion. (Jay L. Clendenin/Los Angeles Times via Getty Images) Disney CEO Bob Iger has decided to scrap Splash Mountain
Iger was one of those who considered the ride’s source material too offensive for modern audiences.
Because that’s his calling to do…apparently.
He even told the shareholder this point in white in 2020.
I felt, since I was CEO, that Song of the South was even with a disclaimer that was just inappropriate in today’s world, Iger said.
Yet the record lines that appeared on the last day of the ride should show once again that much of the population does not agree with the woke agenda of some societies. If they had, there would have been tumbleweeds blowing through the ride queue on the final day instead of the crowds.
Why would thousands of people waste four hours driving something they think is horribly racist?
It’s probably because it’s not, and they don’t think so.
Unfortunately, Splash Mountain is no longer there. At least we have the ungodly and expensive souvenir photos to remember.
