Panic! At The Disco Brendon Urie Allegations, Controversies & Accusations Explained

[ad_1]

Wait, I thought this had already happened?

I thought this guy was canceled already? What is happening here? Are we experiencing some sort of time fluctuation due to the supermassive black hole in our galaxy? Is this some kind of Doctor Who episode that never was? What is happening here? I thought people canceled Brandon Urie years ago? Is this the Mandella effect in play right now? Is something wrong with me? DO I NEED TO GO TO A HOSPITAL? DOES MY INSURANCE COVER THIS? I SPIRAL. SOMEBODY HELP ME.

Oh wait, no, it happened. Like three years ago. Look here. Why is it happening again? I thought it was over and over?

Well… in the digital age, no one ever stays canceled for long… especially not established acts. Too much money at stake.

But why this renewed fervor? Oh… looks like Panic! At The Disco is releasing an album that no one asked for.

So who is Brendon Urie, anyway?

If you were a tween in the early 2000s, you knew Brendon Urie. His band Panic! At The Disco was HUGE at the time. So huge in fact, that they have since followed their own early success.

Meanwhile, Brendon Urie’s iconic status has grown enormously, allowing him to leverage his pop punk career into the modern radio game for his lukewarm pop songs. Remind you of someone? *cough* Adam Levine *cough cough*. God, I hate those two songs so much. Like Urie, Adam Levine has also been accused of sexual misconduct in the form of cheating on his wife.

There really must have been something in the water when it came to these early 2000s bands. Urie himself has been married to a woman named Sarah since 2013, having met her at one of his gigs. Brendon himself has stated that he is pansexual and appears to assault all genders equally. More on that in a minute. His LGBTQ+ identity is also rather ironic, given that Twitter users have also accused him of telling a series of anti-LGBTQ jokes. According to these accusations, he also made ableist jokes. I guess he’s really just in that “I’m going to be a creep to everyone the same” vibe. Ironically, Urie recently received GLSEN’s “Inspiration Award” for his “LGBTQ Youth Advocacy.” He really likes LGBTQ+ kids. And apparently, he can’t seem to help but show it. God, this is all so gross.

And guess what? There will be a new Panic! album: “Viva Las Vengeance” or “Why won’t this band die?”

So Brendon and the gang decided to get back to their guitars and release the sadly titled Viva Las Vengeance, and just released the album’s title track. Netizens like me must have thought Brenden Urie was done, finito, baked after the 2020 scandal, but when he lifted his eyeliner-painted head again, the good people of the World Wide Web shouted and tried to push him away. in the darkness where he belongs. After all, like many rockstars before him, Brenden Urie was accused of sexually assaulting minors. EW EW EW EW EW EW EW EW!!!! You do not believe me ? Check Twitter.

So how did all this badness start?

Well, this all probably stems from some shitty thing that happened in Urie’s childhood, oh, you mean more recently than that? Well, it started in 2020 (we weren’t all hallucinating collectively) when Breezy Weekes, wife of Panic! At Disco, bassist Dallon Weekes accused the band’s bodyguard, Zack Hall, of sexual harassment. As news of the controversy spread, fans waited for Urie to speak out and fire Hall. Soon after, Twitter users began accusing Urie of sexual misconduct. A user @kam02700814 (whose account has since been deleted) allegedly claimed that in 2009 Urie tried to touch him on the inner thigh. In response, the user fled. Several other people made similar accusations against Urie from now-deleted Twitter accounts. The story is generally the same: “I was underage, and he tried to touch me.”

Urie did nothing to help his reputation. Fan footage of an unidentified Panic! The At The Disco concert shows Urie, then 35, telling fans, “If I see you after the show, I’m going to fuck you.” I don’t care if you want it. I don’t care if you don’t want it. Because then I really want it. Yikes with a capital “Y in God’s name would you say that”? Apparently it’s because he meant it. I guess that was less of a statement than a promise. Again, EW.

But does the responsibility end there? not even close

In what appears to be an effort to write more sins than tragedies, Urie got even MORE in deep water for racist and transphobic comments. In another unfortunate concert moment, Urie told the crowd, “I wish I was born black, so I could wear whatever clothes I wear without being laughed at.” To make matters worse, he also spoke the n-word into an old vine. He then allegedly also repeated the t-slur when told in an interview, a sin for which he has since written an apology. Really, Brendon? How do you not know better?

So what is the internet doing about it?

Twitter is apparently tired of the Brendon Urie shit and is done asking him to “talk”. Users now resort to blocking it. His name is trending on Twitter now, and it’s likely to keep him from being blocked by even more accounts. It seems like Viva Las Vengeance is an apt name for his new album, as Twitter’s thirst for revenge against the singer is certainly alive and well. It’s likely that much of the anger stems from how this controversy went unresolved when the allegations first emerged against Urie in 2020. The internet has been waiting for this moment for a long time. Revenge is a dish best served cold, after all.
