Racist scandals become a regular part of any licensing season, and as soon as Season 27 was released, 24-year-old Greer Blitzer issued an apology for defending Blackface in 2016.

The journey to love is filled with lessons and those lessons are also made on our path of growth. In my past, I’ve made uneducated, ignorant, and downright misguided comments on my social media accounts, Greer wrote on his Instagram Story on Tuesday. In particular, I used flawed arguments on Twitter to defend a college student who had dressed up in Blackface as Tupac for Halloween.

In October, a Reddit user posted a thread featuring images of Blitzer sporting Trump/Pence stickers in 2016, along with screenshots of her defending another peer’s use of Blackface.

The students involved didn’t even know what blackface was, so that’s exactly what I meant. It was not an intentional racist act, Blitzer reportedly wrote on Twitter.

In another Tweet, she wrote: This previous incident was stupid, not racist? She didn’t paint herself black because she felt superior to black people.

In her apology, the Houston native said the past tweets do not reflect her thoughts on the matter today.

I am deeply sorry to those I hurt, especially those in the black community, not because those screenshots resurfaced, but because I never shared those hurtful opinions, she said. Time and age don’t excuse my actions, but it doesn’t reflect who I am today.

I do not support or condone the harmful views and behaviors I shared at this stage of my life and will forever regret making these offensive remarks.

On Monday’s premiere episode of The Bachelor, Greer ended up earning Zach Shallcross’ first impression, moving on to the next episode.
