Perry Hooper personally and professionally … hurt by allegations, lawyer says

Former State Rep. Perry Hooper Jr. is only seeking the truth with a lawsuit he filed against Montgomerys Police Chief and the city, alleging he was arrested for a charge of sexual abuse involving a restaurant hostess.

He demands a copy of the video of the incident that led to the charge, which his trial called laughable and argues it should never have been filed.

One wonders why anyone would object to his request, because the truth speaks for itself, according to a statement sent Friday by Hoopers’ lawyer to AL.com.

Mr. Hoopers’ life, both personally and professionally, has been hurt as a result of the allegations against him, the statement continued.

The criminal case was dropped after the alleged victim decided not to press charges and demanded an apology from Hooper.

Hooper issued an apology.

After the lawsuit was filed, attorney Dianne James Davis said in a statement posted on social media that Hooper would not regain his reputation through the lawsuit. Davis said she was commenting personally and not as an attorney for Montgomery hostess Elizabeth Daly.

No, it wasn’t an anti-Trump plot against Mr. Hooper. I guess I have to remind his legal team and Mr. Hooper that he was indicted by a grand jury who witnessed the video and heard his words after his actions against the victim. I guess I also have to remind his legal team and Mr. Hooper that he publicly acknowledged his inappropriate behavior, Davis said in his statement.

Daly then sent a statement on his own behalf.

Daly said that Hooper betrayed and violated their agreement for her to ask for the charges to be dropped in exchange for Hooper to publicly apologize, take responsibility for her actions, and never speak negatively of her.

Recounting the alleged assault, Daly said a man with Hooper told him I would never get away with doing something like this.

Before I had a chance to process the assault or supportive remark and respond, Mr. Hooper chimed in, saying: I’ll get away with it, because I’m Perry Hooper A statement I won’t forget ever, because I knew it was meant as a warning and a boast,” Daly recalled.

Hooper, his attorney said on Friday, filed a lawsuit to acquire video of the alleged incident widely reported in the media. A video, in our opinion, it is entitled to get.

Mr. Hooper seeks only the truth, like everyone involved (including the media), the statement said.
