Newly leaked screenshots on social media appear to show Rep. George Santos (R-NY) making deeply offensive racist and anti-Semitic comments.
Patch reviewed a slew of deleted posts allegedly written by Santos (who allegedly deleted his entire personal Facebook account in December). In 2011, the report says he commented on a photo of Facebook friends in which the friend was giving a salute that was captioned something like Hitler.
Santos would have answered, hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiighhiiiiiiiiiiiitlerrrrrrrrrrrrr (hight hitler) lololololololololololol sombody kill her!! Jews and blacks especially lolllolol!!! dum
A former friend of Santos provided the screenshot to Patch, telling the publication that they decided to find and capture the comment after Santos started claiming he was Jewish and his grandparents were. Holocaust survivors. Santos has made these claims numerous times throughout his recent congressional campaign and multiple inquiries into his past have found that neither appears to be true.
Joking about Hitler is clearly offensive to anyone, said Oren Segal, vice president of the Anti-Defamation Leagues Center on Extremism, but it’s especially offensive to someone who has lied about his Jewish heritage and whose family members fled the Holocaust.
After being accused of lying about his ancestry, Santos told the New York Post that he said he was Jewish and never claimed to be Jewish.
Former Santos roommate Gregory Morey-Parker also appeared on Anderson Coopers’ CNN show and accused Santos of making up the name Anthony Zebrosky so he could raise money more easily from the Jews.
For years, Santos ran an unregistered charity called Friends of Pets that was supposed to help sick pets by helping them raise money on GoFundMe. One of the people Santos helped with the charity accused him of raising $3,000 for his dog’s surgery and then keeping the money.
Well, he used Zebrosky for his friends at Pets United, his GoFundMe, Morey-Parker said. He said, Oh, well, you know, the Jews will give more if you’re a Jew. And, so, that’s the name he used for his GoFundMes.
The Santos team denied ever writing the comment on Facebook.
The Facebook comment you are referring to is completely wrong, absolutely disgusting. There’s absolutely nothing to say, Santos’ attorney Joseph Murray told Patch.
Santos spoke out against anti-Semitism in December.
Patch also drew attention to a 2014 post in which Santos shared a racist photo of Barack and Michelle Obama. Santos claimed he shared the photo to show how egregious it was and that it was clear from his hashtags he didn’t approve of it, but he deleted it anyway after the criticism .
After being elected to represent New York’s third congressional district and becoming the first gay Republican elected to Congress, Santos’ life story fell apart as several newspapers reported that he was never went to the colleges he attended, never worked for the big banks, he said. who he worked for and that he also lied about his family background. He admitted to many of these lies, calling them a bit of fluff on his resume.
Santos admitted he lied about graduating from Baruch College and New York University, working directly for Citigroup and Goldman Sachs and living at a fake address in his congressional district. He has provided no additional evidence to support claims that he founded a charity called Friends of Pets, that his grandparents escaped the Holocaust, and that he lost four employees in the shooting of the Pulse nightclub in June 2016.
Her ex-boyfriend, Pedro Vilarva, said that while they lived together he paid many bills for Santos. He suspects Santos of stealing and pawning his phone for cash.
Santos has also been charged with check fraud in Brazil and was even accused of stealing money for medical care from a dying veteran dog.
A recent Siena College poll found that 71% of New York City commuters think Santos should quit. Only 8% of respondents said they have a favorable opinion of Santos. Santos has repeatedly said he won’t give up.
