Prince Williams Welsh Rugby Union: CEO resigns amid toxic culture allegations
Prince of Wales, Prince William apparently faced another blow when the chief executive of the Welsh Rugby Union resigned on Sunday amid allegations of a ‘toxic culture’ within the organisation.
Prince William has been the boss of the Welsh Rugby Union since 2016.
The Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) is responsible for all levels of the game across Wales, from grassroots community clubs through to the national team.
Steve Phillips has quit after a documentary aired allegations of misogyny, racism and homophobia at the WRU.
Former Olympic hurdler and Welsh winger Nigel Walker has taken over as interim CEO, warning of an “existential crisis” for Welsh rugby.
“It is with tremendous regret that I have decided to tender my resignation,” Phillips said in a statement released by the WRU.
“I have always had the best interests of Welsh rugby at the heart of my every action and thought, but have come to the conclusion that now is the time for someone else to lead the way.” (WebDesk/AFP)
