Attack on Dublin migrant camp looks like a racist attack ” – Varadkar

An assault on a homeless migrant camp in Dublin looks like a racist attack, the Taoiseach has told The Pat Kenny Show.

It was heard that a group of men arrived at the camp on the Tolka River in Ashtown accompanied by dogs and carrying sticks and baseball bats.

They were reportedly heard shouting Get out, pack your bags and get out now.

Some of the camp residents have lived there for seven months and say they were assaulted during the attack.

On The Pat Kenny Show this morning, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said the incident was very disturbing.

Of course, I heard the reports in the media, he said. I don’t have the Garda report yet, but I’ll get one.

I’m always hesitant to comment on anything without knowing all the facts, but that sounds like a racist attack.

These are people who are foreign. People sleeping on the streets.

He said we need to make sure we don’t see an increase in similar attacks in the coming months.

I think this requires a full investigation by the Garda and is something I will pursue with them, he said.
