GREENVILLE, South Carolina (WHNS/Gray News) Four people died Sunday of carbon monoxide poisoning in a South Carolina home, officials said.
Police were called to the scene when someone called 911 to report a cardiac arrest, according to the Greenville County Coroners Office.
After an autopsy, the coroner determined that the victims died of carbon monoxide poisoning. Officials said a generator was used to power part of the residence and was placed inside the house.
The victims have been identified as Alfonso Maldonado, 37, Fernando Olea-Cano, 29, Pedro Zapo, 29, and Juan Osorio Castillo, 34.
Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas, which can be found in fumes from generators, small engines, stoves, vehicles, furnaces and more. Generators should never be operated indoors.
Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include headache, dizziness, weakness, stomach pain, vomiting, chest pain, and confusion.
