Aren’t the circumstances of Tire Nichols’ death unspeakably sad? That several police officers, even of his own race, can harbor such hatred towards one of their own (and themselves by implication) is simply tragic.
This event testifies to the appalling success of our racist society in instilling such hatred. How can we ever manifest the birthright of every living being on this planet: to be respected, supported and loved? The first step must be to embrace the problem with honesty and sincerity and truly effect national change. This cannot be accepted for who we are.
