Students accused of sending racist messages and threats

Original story from 01/30/2023 below:

A Jacksonville family is outraged and speaking out after their son allegedly received racist messages and threats from other students at Bishop John Snyder High School in Westside Jacksonville.

Now the family are taking to social media, calling out the boys who allegedly sent the student these messages. This all comes after these alleged messages were sent to the student in a Snapchat group chat.

One of the messages states that the student is not allowed to use words from the dictionary because, in quotes, white people created them.

Later in the chat, another classmate then references the student’s nickname and suggests that he is dead.

A boy in the chat allegedly then sent this photo of himself with a gun, saying 10 to 1. Another student allegedly suggested that the student would blow himself up.

He also alleged that they threatened the entire house of the targeted students, saying they would, quote-unquote, black hawk into his residence.

The family has now filed a police report with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Action News Jax spoke Monday night with the father of the allegedly targeted students, who said it had been a painful time for his son and his family.

It’s a lot of pain. There are things in those messages that my son will never forget, Corker Wimberly said. I don’t want to have to worry about my son. And I don’t want a parent to have to worry about the safety of their son or their child.

Wimberly also met with school officials and said the school was investigating and taking the matter seriously.

It can’t be swept under the rug at all, says Corker. And I think the school, Bishop Snyder, is taking the necessary precautions and has a good plan of action.

Action News Jax has also requested police reports associated with this incident and will provide further updates as they become available.
