When news broke this week about the alleged cheating the Arizona Cardinals committed during the suspension of then-general manager Steve Keim, it made headlines.

The Cardinals reacted quickly, and this response might get them in trouble, but it also did something unexpected, at least for this writer and fan… It made them worse than the original claims.

I don’t want to shine a light on Terry McDonough’s claims, but it looks more like a needless, sloppy cover-up that McDonough brought to light and not serious allegations of cheating.

I mean, why would Michael Bid need to get around his own suspension of his GM?

Believe me, if the Cardinals were illegally in contact with Steve Keim, they deserve the punishment they receive, just for their comedic incompetence.

However, their PR response about McDonough was what worried me.

In their response, the Cardinals outline a series of issues with McDonough:

A close family member, writing that he was troubled and perplexed by recent changes in Terry’s behavior and that Terry had given up responsibility for one of his children and cut her off financially. The statement says that, for reasons of due diligence, we conducted a review of records in recent days which revealed a series of disturbing emails to and from Terry’s work email account which include alarming and first-hand allegations. extreme domestic violence hand by Terry.

So they let a guy plague their organization for a decade with lingering personal and professional issues?

The public relations response describes years of alleged combative responses and outbursts with colleagues. Yet he was still the organization’s third highest ranking official?

Although we don’t know, it seems strange that no action was taken until the burner incident, where McDonough and Michael Bidwill were at odds. So as long as McDonough’s rage and unprofessional behavior was aimed away from the top of the organization, was it okay?

It paints a picture of incompetence at the top at best and pervasive toxic behavior at worst.

If the Cardinals cheated, that’s a problem and it needs to be fixed.

If they’ve allowed someone with these supposed challenges to enter and leave the office unhindered for years, that makes it a huge deal.
