Three months after Julia Misley filed a lawsuit against Steven Tyler in a Los Angeles court, the Aerosmith singer has denied all allegations of sexual assault against her as a minor.

According to Rolling Stone, Tyler’s response was filed last week in Los Angeles County Superior Court and outlined a long line of defense requests asking for the lawsuit to be dismissed. Specifically, Tyler insists that the complainant consented to their sexual relationship and that Tyler had immunity as a legal guardian at the time the allegations arose. Misley, who was known as Julia Holcomb at the time of the alleged assault, accused Tyler of sexual assault and battery in the 1970s when she was still a minor. Misley’s lawsuit claims that Tyler convinced his mother to grant him legal guardianship of her when she was 16 and they had a sexual relationship for about three years. Misley then references Tyler’s own memoir, in which the Aerosmith singer wrote that he almost took a bride and his parents signed a paper for me to have custody of her, so I wouldn’t be stopped if I took it out of state and on tour.

Misley also alleged that Tyler coerced and persuaded her to believe they were involved in a romantic love affair while claiming that Tyler insisted on her having an abortion in 1975 when Misley was 17 and was pregnant with her child. Misley also claims Tyler’s memoir brought her unintended infamy and further disrupted her life.

In response, Tylers attorney Shawn Holley issued 24 affirmative defenses denying all of the allegations. In addition to claiming immunity based on plaintiffs’ consent and Tylers’ then-status as legal guardian, Tylers’ defense said Misley suffered no injury or damage as a result of any action by the defendant. , and that if plaintiff was found to have caused damage, such damage was not caused by defendant.

Tylers’ attorney also outlined First Amendment protections for brief references and a statute of limitations for Misleys’ claims. According to Tyler, Misley filed the lawsuit days after the look-back window closed for California’s Child Victims Act, a 2019 law that allowed survivors of childhood sexual abuse to come forward with their allegations, regardless of or the limitation period.

Misleys attorney Jeff Anderson released a statement in response to Tyler’s denial, calling it a gob-smacking and gaslighting response.

He inflicts more pain on Misley and enlightens her by falsely claiming that she consented and that the pain he inflicted was justified and in good faith, Anderson said in the statement. Never have we encountered such an odious and potentially dangerous legal defense as the one Tyler and his attorneys launched this week: Their assertion that legal guardianship is consent and authorization for sexual abuse.
