JAY-Zs Roc Nation has come to the defense of soccer star Romelu Lukaku, who was the target of racist abuse during a Coppa Italia semi-final match in Italy earlier this week.
Roc Nation has released a defiant statement calling on Italy, its fans and the global sports community to come together and hold bigots accountable to a humane standard in an effort to stamp out such racist behavior in sport.
Hovs company bought a full-page advert in Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport stating that enough was enough after Roc Nation Sports’ substitute Lukaku endured racist jeers during the away game. Inter Milan against Juventus, Tuesday April 4.
Juve fans mocked Lukaku throughout the 1-1 draw and mocked him after he scored a penalty inside the Allianz Stadium in Turin making monkey noises and spitting epithets racial slurs on the Belgian striker.

Dear Italy, Do better. Want better. Be better, reads the message from the Roc Nations. In professional football, black players have been the object of hatred in professional football matches.
The hate has manifested itself in the form of monkey chants, racial slurs and banana peels thrown at the best players in the world, under the eyes of the world, under the eyes of the children, under the eyes of the families of the players .
Roc Nation went on to call for more concrete actions from the powers that be: No one suffered any consequences for this heinous behavior. Nothing has changed. No action has been taken.
We call on the global community of athletes, team owners, artists, brands and all fans to call out this racist behavior and hold bigots accountable to a humane standard. One who upholds decency, respect and compassion for others. The first team is the human team. Let’s work together to eliminate racism from the game, for good.
Roc Nation Sports International President Michael Yormark added: Tonight’s racist remarks towards Romelu Lukaku by Juventus fans in Turin were beyond despicable and cannot be accepted.
Romelu Lukaku addressed the post-game hate in an Instagram post with a photo of him shushing the crowd after scoring his last-minute equaliser.

The story repeats itself. I lived it in 2019.. and again in 2023.. I hope the league really takes action for real this time because this beautiful game should be enjoyed by everyone, he wrote. Thanks for the messages of support.
French superstar Kylian Mbappé also came to the defense of Lukakus, writing on his Instagram Story: 2023 and still the same problems. But weren’t going to let this continue. All against racism.
Sadly, this is far from the first time that Lukaku has been the target of racism on the pitch in Italy. In 2019, a group of Italian fans launched disgusting racist remarks at the 29-year-old after he scored in a game against Cagliari.
