Oscar De La Hoya slams Floyd Mayweather for Ryan Garcia criticism

Oscar De La Hoya called Floyd Mayweather “a fucking idiot” for his portrayal of Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis.

The two undefeated young fighters are set to square off in Sin City on April 22 at a catchweight of 136 pounds in what could be boxing’s biggest event of 2023.

Both Davis and Garcia have impressive names on their respective teams, and with the promotion in full swing, the trash talk has begun.

A video of Mayweather discussing the star power of fighters has been making the rounds recently, with the retired 50-0 pro saying there’s no real comparison.

“Tank made his followers kick ass. Ryan Garcia got his from YouTubers. There is a difference. So do you want to be a YouTuber, or do you want to be a fighter? Tank is a fighter.

De La Hoya – also a multiple-weight world champion like Mayweather – cut the video and responded to it, highlighting his frenemy’s exhibition career.

“So Ryan Garcia is not a fighter? He has been fighting since he was six years old. He has over 200 amateur fights.

“I don’t care where his supporters are from, if they’re from fucking Mars the fact is his supporters are selling this fight.

And besides, don’t you remember fighting YouTubers? Do you belittle YouTubers? You took advantage of it. I can’t with you man, you’re an asshole. I can not wait. On April 22, Ryan Garcia knocks out Tank Davis.”

While Mayweather’s current relationship with ‘Tank’ is rocky and relatively confusing, that doesn’t change the fact that we were his protege.

This adds yet another layer of intrigue to the fight, given that he and De La Hoya fought in 2007, long before they traded those punches outside of the ring.

Mayweather captured the world super welterweight title that night in Las Vegas in what became the most financially successful boxing event of its time.

If the Davis-Garcia card gets even a glimpse of this success, everyone involved in the business side of things will be happy. For the fighters though, it’s all about victory.
