Everyone has probably played the iconic SuperMario video game at some point in their lives. So when the Super Mario Bros movie reboot was announced, to say audiences were thrilled would be an understatement. The film is based on Nintendo’s best-selling video game franchise. And the iconic video game character was voiced by Chris Pratt.

The animated film was released in theaters on April 5. Despite the initial buzz surrounding it, the film received mixed reviews from critics.
Apparently, on review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, the Super Mario Bros movie has a review score of just 54% positive, marking it as Rotten. In stark contrast, the Audience Score (voted by lay critics) is a positive “Fresh 96 percent”.

Elon Musk criticizes critics
Twitter’s controversial CEO recently responded to a tweet, lashing out at critics for their negative reviews of The Super Mario Bros. He wasn’t a fan of critics’ “out of touch” comments and didn’t care about their criticisms.
Wow, the reviews are so out of touch with reality!

Some people have been more skeptical of the apparent disconnect between audiences and critics, given that the film’s target audience was meant to be younger kids, and critics may not see it from the same perspective.
That’s exactly what those numbers should look like given that the audience for movies is made up of children and most of the professional critics are adults,
Elon Musk, CEO of Twitter
Coincidentally, Elon Musk once appeared as the Mario character in a Saturday Night Live skit in 2021. The eccentric entrepreneur played Wario, Mario’s infamous yellow enemy.
The sketch itself was a major power play, and it did exactly what it was designed to do, get everyone talking about Elon Musk and SNL. The original tweet mentions that the pundits have a problem with Chris Pratt, but it turns out they’re not the only ones.
Since the release of the movie’s trailer, die-hard Nintendo fans have been primarily concerned with one thing, Chris Pratt. More precisely, its dubbing. Pratt’s voice and accent are a far cry from the original Italian accented lines like “It’s me, Mario!” and “Let’s go!” everyone knows and loves Nintendo’s Super Mario games. But the Guardians of the Galaxy actor was sure their worries would go away once they watched the highly anticipated movie.
“There’s definitely been some discussion about how best to voice the character,” Pratt told Yahoo Entertainment. “We tried a lot of different things and finally settled on the voice you hear when you watch the movie. I’m really happy with it and I think people are going to really enjoy it.

Despite unflattering reviews from critics, the film got off to a booming start. The animated film collected a cumulative domestic total of $113 million within three days of its release. In its first weekend, Super Mario Bros had a box office projection of $130-140 million.
