Falling short of expectations and pre-season hype, Carlos Sainz insists no one is “more upset, angry or unhappy with the situation” than Ferrari.
Sainz and teammate Charles Leclerc have been preparing for the new season dreaming of a title under new team boss Fred Vasseur.
But three races into the championship no driver has even made it onto the podium, with Sainz 49 points behind the pace set by reigning world champion Max Verstappen with Leclerc a further 14 points behind.
Driving an unbalanced car which, like its predecessor, proves to be a tire eater, Sainz conceded that Ferrari lacked in every way compared to the championship-leading Red Bull RB19.
And it’s a situation that no one at Ferrari is happy about.
“You have to realize that no one is more upset, angry or upset about the situation than everyone else. [team member] here,” he said according to Motorsport.com.
“We are the ones who are not happy.
“We are the first to not like the situation. And it’s us who go full throttle to turn [the situation] around because it is also about our egos, our performance.
“We are proud to be Ferrari and we want to take Ferrari forward. And sometimes the comments [in the media] are more of a distraction and drag us down than they help us.

The Scuderia critics are in full force, which the 28-year-old says they really don’t need as they try to get back into contention.

“That’s why we try to stay away from such comments. We don’t need extra distractions or other people dragging us down.
Ferrari hopes for Imola upgrade
Under F1’s new ground effect aero regulations, the cars are still in their infancy, having only been introduced last season.
That means there’s still a lot to do, “tons” if you ask Vasseur.
Ferrari is set to introduce a big upgrade at the first of its two home races, the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, one that will fix the SF-23’s balance issues.
Although Vasseur insisted that the upgrades would not go so far as to be a B spec car, he added: we have a stream of updates for different types of downforce, in Baku he not advisable to introduce anything new as there is sprint racing, but in Miami, Imola and Barcelona we will always have updates on the cars, and that was part of the program.
We have made some changes in terms of setup and the situation in Melbourne has improved, so we will continue in this direction. You won’t see a B trim car, to answer the question, something completely different won’t come. We will continue to update and we will do so massively.
