Anti-racist Yale welcomes cheerleader for murdering Jews and racial hatred

Yale University makes no secret that among its top institutional priorities are anti-racism and diversity, equity, and inclusion. It’s also no secret that the Yales administration and students have been vigilant, some say over-vigilant, in condemning campus rhetoric that questions the Yales DEI perspective.

In 2015, mobs of students stalked, yelled at, and insulted a team of married professors for days, simply because the wife wondered if the campus DEI office needed to monitor students’ Halloween costumes. . The two professors, Nicholas and Erika Christakis, were eventually pressured to resign from their administrative leadership positions and Erika Christakis to resign from Yale altogether.

In 2021, a Yale law student was called before a diversity dean and threatened with adverse references that would bar his admission to the bar for jokingly using the phrase trap house in an emailed party invitation. Although of Native American descent, the student has been called a racist.

In 2022, a mob of more than 100 Yale law students disrupted and sought to end a debate on campus between a liberal atheist lawyer and a conservative Christian lawyer. The police had to escort the speakers out of the building.

Amid these efforts to sanitize the Yale campus from harmful speech, it may come as a surprise that Yale last week hosted an anti-Semitic speaker whose writings express hatred of Jews, Israel and white people and explicitly justify killings. of Jews and Israelis. Worse still, this conference of hate promoters was endorsed by an online publication of Yales’ flagship DEI program, known as Belonging at Yale.

Specifically, on Thursday, April 6, Yale sponsored a lecture by Houria Bouteldja on France and whiteness. This is the same Bouteldja who in March 2012, just after radical Islamist Mohammed Merah massacred a rabbi and three children in Toulouse, France, publicly declared that Mohammed Merah was me.

Bouteldja also wrote the 2016 book The Whites, the Jews and Us, which, as one critic put it, presents the dismantling of Israel as a priority, praises [ex-Iranian President Mahmoud] Ahmadinejad for stating that there are no homosexuals in Iran, and expressing unambiguous anti-Semitism. The book attacks the Jew for his desire to blend into the whiteness, to support his oppressor. This may explain Bouteldja’s flippant and morbid assertion that killing an Israeli is killing two birds with one stone, eliminating the oppressor and the oppressed with one blow.

Boudeldja approvingly quoted another writer to offer a decolonial reading of the Nazi genocide, in which she scandalously blamed the Jews for their near-extermination at the hands of the Nazis. With stunning historical illiteracy, she writes: They tolerated this Nazism before it was inflicted upon them. … They absolved it, closed their eyes to it, [and] legitimized it, because until then it only applied to non-European peoples. … They cultivated this Nazism … [and hence] are responsible for it.

Bouteldjas’ book also clearly shows his hatred towards white people, stating, I hate white good conscience. I curse him. She defines the white person as: I am one who subjugates, plunders, steals, rapes, commits genocide,” adding, “Every white person…must take and steal…like a gangster, bully or thug “.

She cruelly dismisses the victims of 9/11, the July 7 attacks on the London Underground and the Charlie Hebdo murders as just indispensable white people: bombs explode on the underground. The towers… are collapsing like a house of cards. The journalists of a famous magazine are decimated. … [But] they are all white.

That’s not to say Yale should have canceled Bouteldja’s speech, despite his litany of hate. She has the right to speak and Yale has the right to house her. But it’s a call to expose Yale’s corrosive double standards and confront Yale with some important questions.

For example, how can you justify harboring such a hatemonger after allowing the torrent of public abuse and institutional shaming from Nicholas and Erika Christakis for their innocuous statements?

And why did Yale schedule the appearance of this anti-Semitic speaker on the day of the second Seder of Passover, which prevented most Jews from attending and challenging her?

Ironically, just a week earlier, Yale had hosted a talk by Dara Horn, author of the book People Love Dead Jews. Horn, a Jewish novelist, has documented that many institutions that commemorate the Holocaust still display significant bias and hostility towards Israel and observant Jews.

It seems that Yale, diverse and anti-racist Yale, loves its dead Jews too. The living, not so much.
