Rangers fans’ criticism of Ross Wilson ‘harsh’, says Kenny Miller

The 39-year-old left for Nottingham Forest earlier in the week amid fan protests and widespread discontent from fans online.

He will play a big role with the Premier League club who have been looking to bring him in for some time.

And while Miller understands why fans have been frustrated, he doesn’t believe Wilson is solely to blame and partly a victim of circumstance.

He told the Daily Record: “I get the frustrations from the fans who expected Rangers to go after winning the league. It never really happened. Celtic, under Ange, came straight back and I feel some of the criticism thrown at Ross earlier in the season was harsh because it wasn’t just up to him.

“It certainly wouldn’t be a case of Wilson telling Giovanni van Bronckhorst or Gerrard who they would sign. It would have been a collaboration and it’s the same with Beale in recruiting the club. If you go through all signings from last summer, you could probably choose There were a few summers where signings weren’t great.

“That’s what the fans were jumping on. Van Bronckhorst was grabbing him in the neck and then he was substituted. Fans couldn’t really go after Michael because apart from Celtic he won the majority of games So the finger was pointed at the board and the sporting director.

“If Rangers were top of the league, a lot of fans wouldn’t care about recruiting. If your team is top of the league, they can cover up the cracks. There’s no doubt that Ross will think things through.

“Mistakes have been made but, as a sporting director, it’s a job where you’re not going to do everything right. I’m sure everyone at the club will wish Ross the best at Nottingham Forest. Rangers must Now move on and make sure the mistakes of the last two summers are not repeated because there needs to be an answer and the starting XI has improved.”
