PPP rejects JI’s claim of manipulating Karachi census

HYDERABDA: Pakistan Peoples Parties Senator Taj Hyder has held faulty counting methodology and seedy maps responsible for population undercounts in censuses.

Haider, who is also a member of the PPP Central Committee and head of the PPP Central Election Cell, said in a statement on Monday that the undercount was a serious problem, which could not be corrected if the methodology of Current counting and the use of old cards has not been stopped.

He said Sindh’s population was projected at over 64 million using Unicef’s MICS (multiple indicator cluster survey) figures, instead of 49 million as projected after the 92 per cent tally in the census current. This could be verified by Nadra’s figures although the authority has yet to issue network cards to around 4% of families, he said.

He said the 35 billion rupees spent on the current census had been wasted. The days of messing around with numbers are over, he said, adding that we need to find reliable alternatives together.

Senator Taj Haider blames flawed methodology for undercount

He called Jamaat-i-Islami Pakistans allegations that PPP colluded with the federal government to manipulate the people of Karachis as highly unfair.

He said that under the direction of his leaders, he himself visited the offices of JI and MQM and presented his book Sindh ka Muqaddima, Census 2017 and supporting documents dealing with the issue of population undercount in Sindh. Hafiz Naeem had received the book himself, he said.

He said the book focused on Karachi being the capital of Sindh and a population chart in 2013 obtained from NADRA was printed. It was Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah who resisted pressure to validate the controversial 2017 census undercount and through his efforts the PTI government had to agree to hold a new census.

He said that unfortunately Hafiz Naeem did not recognize that Sindh also existed beyond Sohrab Goth and after parties protested the PTI government had to add a representative from Sindh to the 12-member advisory council during a new census.

He said the Statistics Council of Pakistan, however, had already prepared its malicious working paper establishing its counting methodology as de jure and not de facto, thus repeating the plot that made the 2017 census controversial and PPP continued. to resist the conspiracy.

He said that in a meeting at CM House on August 1, the Chief Minister had convinced PBS that the de facto counting methodology was correct, that the questionnaire needed to be simplified and that the purchased tablets were a waste of time and silver.

He said the CM subsequently held meetings with the Federal Minister of Planning and Development during which Sindh’s logical position was reiterated. Recently, an all-party conference was organized by the PPP on the Census and four PPP Senators from Sindh submitted a resolution to the Senate which has now been submitted to the Planning and Development Standing Committee after a long delay.
