Daniel Podence available as Wolves await decision on spitting allegation

Daniel Podence is available for Wolves for their Premier League match at Leicester City on Saturday with a date yet to be set for a hearing into an allegation he spat at Nottingham Forests Brennan Johnson.

An independent regulatory committee was due to sit this week to consider an FA accusation that Podence spat against the Forest striker in the 1-1 draw on April 1.

But no date has yet been set for the hearing, meaning Podence is free to travel with Julen Lopeteguis’ side to Leicester.

He is also likely to be available to face Crystal Palace at Molineux on Tuesday, given the short time between fixtures, and could also be part of the trip to Brighton on April 29.

That would leave Wolves with just four games left this season, meaning any extended ban on a guilty verdict could result in a suspension of up to six games continuing into next season.

Podence strongly denies the allegation that he spat at Johnson and is fully backed by Wolves in contesting the FA charge.

Ruben Neves will also travel to Leicester after serving his two-game suspension for racking up 10 yellow cards, but Lopetegui declined a draw today to find out whether his captain will be recalled after back-to-back home wins in his absence against Chelsea and Brentford.

Ruben has been a very good player for us all season and a very complete player who is important for the dressing room and the pitch.

Lopetegui reported no new injury concerns ahead of Leicester’s game with Diego Costa expected to be available despite suffering a knee injury after scoring his first Wolves goal in the 2-0 win over Brentford.
