The Good Brothers proved their biggest critic with their return to WWE

[ad_1]

After stints in NJPW, Impact Wrestling and AEW, The Good Brothers tag team of Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows made a shocking return to WWE in October last year. However, since their return, things haven’t exactly gone as planned. With the injury of their ally AJ Styles, the Good Brothers have not only been without direction, but they have been a complete non-factor in WWE programming. The last six months under contract with WWE has proven the biggest criticism they have received in recent years – they are just background characters for their various friends who are booked as bigger stars.

There was some excitement when Anderson & Gallows arrived in WWE to provide backup for AJ Styles in his Judgment Day war, though the trio fell short on their heels at the Crown Jewel event. For a few weeks, they continued to fight Judgment Day, briefly aligning themselves with Mia Yim as well. However, before he could move on, AJ Styles suffered a long-term injury, and since then, the Good Brothers have had nothing to do. Despite being a proven good tag team, they did not go after the undisputed WWE tag team titles or had any tag team feuds.

For the past few months, the duo have competed in live events, occasionally Main Event, and recently made a television appearance competing in the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal on the pre-WrestleMania 39 edition of SmackDown. although they were expelled with relative ease. They weren’t even used to place other teams, which is a surprise, because that would be better than being confined to the Main Event and not doing anything else of note. However, this trajectory only proved the point of view of their detractors – they are lackeys.

They were apparently brought back from Styles’ side, and due to his absence, they weren’t used. This lack of a back-up plan or an alternate direction for the team was a highly questionable decision on the part of Triple H and the creation of WWE, but it further serves the argument that they are just replacements. for the biggest stars. This has been a trend not only in their WWE career but also in other promotions.

During their last stint in WWE, they were brought in to team up with AJ Styles, and then they would also be background characters for Finn Balor on occasion, vaguely referencing their Bullet Club days. Speaking of which, in AEW and Impact, they once again played that role behind Jay White and Kenny Omega – both in Bullet Club and in reference to their history in the faction. For years, their identities have been those of former Bullet Club members and friends of former leaders. It wasn’t interesting, and while they were good at the lackey role, it slowly damaged their status as an independent act.

As part of AEW’s “Super-Elite”, they were the least important members, and despite some recent renewed success at Impact and NJPW, they’re back to square one again now that they’ve returned to the WWE. It’s clear that WWE sees them that way, and many fans do too, which is a shame considering he was once in the conversation for the best tag team in the world.

It’s obvious WWE sees the Good Brothers as background characters.

When the pair returned to WWE, Anderson was still forced out of NJPW as he reigned as the NEVER Openweight Champion. This prompted a few visits through the Forbidden Gate, which was a hugely intriguing prospect. However, it was barely mentioned on WWE television, the belt was never seen on Raw, and in Anderson’s NJPW appearances his performances lacked energy and there was no no more real WWE reference. While it could have been a fun inter-promotional story, WWE clearly saw no stock in it, nor Anderson & Gallows to play as strangers.

It seems very obvious now that they won’t be making their regular return to WWE television until AJ Styles returns. In all truth, this looks like a major waste of an established act that could add depth to the tag team division. Sadly, this only proved their utmost criticism from fans across the board, casting them, yet again, as irrelevant background characters to AJ Styles, Finn Balor, Kenny Omega, and more. Whether or not that will change remains to be seen, but it is very likely that it will remain the case.
