May the bridges I burn light the way

Meghan McCain recalls her time on The View and says she feels validated after listening to Rosie ODonnell say she wouldn’t be returning to the talk show either.

Rosie ODonnell and I probably don’t agree on much. But here were in sync. There’s nothing on God’s green earth that could convince me to walk this plateau again, McCain wrote in his Daily Mail column.

McCain was responding to ODonnells’ appearance on the Now What? with Brooke Shields podcast where Now and Then star Whoopi Goldberg blocked certain topics from being discussed on air, such as the sexual assault allegations against Bill Cosby.

Although McCain says she’s still hesitant to rehash her experience on the show that ended in complete disaster, she wrote in her column that she was also cut off from topics I thought were newsworthy by the show’s producers. McCain mentioned that she was also denied speaking out about the scandal that Democratic Virginia Governor Ralph Northam faced after photos from a 1980s yearbook surfaced that showed him in black.

It was a topic millions of Americans debated over office water coolers and picnic tables at backyard barbecues. But we weren’t allowed to talk about it because of Whoopi and Joy Behar, McCain wrote. Around the same time as the Northam reveal, an old photo emerged showing Behar wearing makeup to darken his skin for a Halloween costume in the 1970s. Behar even bragged about the image in one segment resurfaced in 2016, claiming that she had dressed up as a beautiful African woman.

McCain also noted that talking about the subject would also revert to Goldberg’s ex-Ted Danson in blackface at a Friars Club roast in 1993.

ODonnell also mentioned that the animosity between the co-hosts was a reason she wouldn’t return. McCain compared that to her own experience on the ABC talk show with fellow panelists not being good.

On my second day back, Behar told me in front of the camera and in front of the whole world, that he didn’t miss me at all,” McCain recalled. I went to my office after the show, threw up in a trash can, called my brother hysterically crying and decided to quit the show that day.

McCain added that the only way to survive on this show was to be a vanilla pudding. Don’t say anything controversial with the elites, bow down and don’t do the job you were hired to do, which is to voice your genuine opinions.

Elsewhere in the column, McCain said, may the bridges I burn light the way.
