Prince Edward County Council apologizes to the public after a councilor’s remarks sparked backlash.

At the April 11 regular council meeting, council was discussing a new by-law regarding the appointment of a pound keeper to help deal with issues with stray loose cattle.

During a debate on the current motion, Councilor Bill Roberts likened the myriad problems caused by the complex issue of stray cattle to a haircut from Don King.

Don King is a famous and flamboyant boxing promoter known for his extreme and distinctive haircut.

Councilor Roberts was accused of comparing Don Kings’ head to wild cattle.

Mayor Steve Ferguson issued an apology on behalf of the municipality at Tuesday’s council meeting.

I want to apologize and I think I’m probably speaking on behalf of the board members. And for the fact that this apology took so long, said Mayor Ferguson.

Councilor Roberts expressed his regret that the remark was misunderstood.

If my remarks were misinterpreted or misunderstood, I regret it, Councilor Robertson said.

Mayor Ferguson also noted that the municipality would review its anti-racism policy to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
