Former LAPD officer released after rape allegations

[ad_1]

A former Los Angeles police officer facing rape allegations has been released.

On April 20, the Los Angeles Police Department arrested Diego Jose Miranda Lopez for allegedly raping a child under the age of 14. Lopez, a former LAPD officer, was working as an officer trainee and quit after being confronted with the allegations. The department said the alleged attack happened before he started working for the agency.

The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office was to review the case and consider filing charges on April 24. According to the prosecutor’s office, prosecutors have referred the case to law enforcement for further investigation. They couldn’t release any further details since Lopez was a minor at the time of the allegations.

“As in all juvenile cases, we are limited in what we can share with the public,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.

In an April 20 news release, the LAPD said the minor was handling the criminal investigation while the Internal Affairs Division would lead the administrative investigation into the case.
