The Arizona Cardinals said they were taking steps to improve the work environment for their employees through a series of internal listening sessions in a memo obtained by Arizona Sports.
All-staff memo sent by HR director Shaun Mayo details steps Arizona told employees it would take amid allegations of cheating and misconduct made by ex-executive Terry McDonough in an arbitration claim filed April 4 against owner Michael Bidwill and the Cardinals.
The NFL has reportedly hired former NBA chief legal officer Jeffrey Mishkin as a hearing officer on the matter, per ESPN.
Over the past few weeks, the team has held a combined 32 listening sessions with more than 150 employees, resulting in numerous changes it plans to roll out, according to the memo.
These include increased working flexibility, a salary review and a regular cadence of all staff connection points, among other improvements.
Mayo added that these steps are just the beginning as the team looks to move forward.
In addition to the internal review, the memo says the Cardinals are in the process of hiring an independent consultant to further assess the team’s policies and culture. The consultant could potentially provide other recommendations for the franchise.
News of the planned upgrades comes during Day 2 of the 2023 NFL Draft, where the Cardinals just selected Ohio State offensive lineman Paris John with the sixth overall pick on Thursday night after a pair of exchanges orchestrated by the new general manager Monti Ossenfort.
The GM continued to roll and trade on Day 2, facilitating two more trades and adding LSU advantage BJ Ojulari (#41 overall), Syracuse CB Garrett Williams (#72) and Stanford wide receiver Mike Wilson (#94).
