Ezra Miller’s solo film The Flash is set to hit theaters soon. As if a single-player Flash movie wasn’t enough, excitement skyrocketed when it was announced that Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck would be reprising their roles as the Batmen. On top of that, fans will also get to see Sasha Calle as a much-loved Kryptonian, Supergirl.

While the film has general positivity around it, some fans weren’t too fond of the fact that Sasha Calle played Supergirl because she didn’t look the part. The OG Supergirl, as we know, is blonde and Sasha Calle is brunette. A fan tried to imagine what the actress would look like with the comedic features of the superhero. However, the montage is deemed racist by many as fans call out the act on Twitter.

In order to make Sasha Calles Supergirl look more like the classic Kara Zor El, a fan modified her with blonde hair and swapped out her Supergirl costume to be more comical as well. However, fans were quick to point out something they thought was inappropriate in the edit. Twitter is calling out the editor for changing Calles’ skin color. Here is what they say:
if you don’t see a problem with that you are the problem btw

How do I think Sasha Calle could pull off the blonde? Yes. Do I think wanting her to be blonde in a movie where Barry Allen is a brunette without anyone complaining is racist? Yes too. Especially since they cleared up his skin.

I was confused for a second about how having blonde hair was bleached until I saw the deliberate difference in skin tone

Shit, don’t we have enough fake blondes in Hollywood? Leave it as it is. It doesn’t have to look like the limited color palette of an old comic book.

the hair is thin but to lighten her complexion. it’s just despicable.

However, there are always two teams in a debate. Some fans said the editor had no intention of changing Calles’ skin color and they just lightened his photo. This could have led to the actress appearing much clearer than she actually is. But which side of the debate are you on?
Cir-El in DC Comics
As far as comic book accuracy goes, while Calles Supergirl doesn’t look like the classic version of the character, she looks exactly like Cir-El, another Supergirl.

There are two versions of Sasha Calle’s story in The Flash
Due to all the backlash, the editor himself had to speak up and give a clarification on his behalf. He said he didn’t touch Calles’ skin color at all and that he himself was Latino, just like the actress.
I did this as a fun edit to make Sasha Calle look like a more classic Kara Zor El and people are accusing me of whitewashing. I just edited the hair and the costume and didn’t edit any shapes or skin shapes. As a Latino myself, I would never tolerate anything like that. Please don’t be misinformed. I used an app to just lighten the image and obviously it will look different in different lighting.
Many fans are on his side saying that some people are just looking for things to get angry about, even if everything is fine. What do you think of the test? Is the editor solely to blame or are people just overreacting?
You’ll be able to see Calles Supergirl in full force as soon as The Flash is set to release on June 16, 2023.
