Congress Speaker Mallikarjun Kharge has defended his son Priyank Kharge for his disparaging statement about Prime Minister Narendra Modi which sparked a row, saying he never said the words, which are projected as his statement. Kharge firmly refused to accept his son Priyank’s statement, although his statement was caught on camera. Kharge said that everything said is not true at all.
The Congress speaker, when asked about his son’s insults to the Prime Minister, said: “No he never said that, don’t put those words in his mouth.” He further added that his son Priyank was referring to someone else with his words. He called the allegations false.
Priyank Kharge called PM Modi a “beta nalayak?
Notably, his son Priyank Kharge hurled insulting remarks at PM Modi calling him ‘nalayak beta’ (worthless son) on camera. Priyank said, while addressing a rally in Karnataka, “The Prime Minister said when he came to Kalaburgi and asked all of you not to be afraid because the son of the Banjara community is sitting at Delhi”. But how will it work, if the son is ‘nalayak’.
Priyank Kharge’s remark came days after his father Mallikarjun Kharge called PM Modi a ‘venomous snake’. However, the Congress Speaker later claimed that his remark was not for Prime Minister Modi and was against BJP ideology.
Meanwhile, the father-son duo face backlash from the Bharatiya Janata party. BJP leaders are targeting them for insulting the prime minister. In response to Priyank Kharge’s derogatory remarks about Prime Minister Modi, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi reacted by saying, “Congress has been allergic to Prime Minister Modi from the beginning because he comes from a poor family. Congress cannot stomach the fact that someone from a poor family became the prime minister of the country and working for the development of the nation.”
BJP spokesman Gaurav Bhatia, speaking to Republic, said: “It is the Congress party’s frustration as they know they would be broadcast from Karnataka.” It is the tendency of the Congress party to use derogatory language for people who hold high constitutional positions.
