Arsenal criticism comes hot on the heels of recent poor results, says Mikel Arteta

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta believes his side’s criticism is fair after their recent run of poor results.

Artetas’ side are winless in their last four matches and, following Manchester City’s 2-1 victory at Fulham on Sunday, have dropped to second place in the Premier League for the first time since September.

Arsenal’s most recent result was a humiliating 4-1 loss to City last Wednesday, after draws against Liverpool, West Ham United and Southampton.

As for the critics of his side, Arteta said on Monday: I don’t think it’s unfair, his football. We are Arsenal Football Club, we have to be here to win every trophy.

This is the request. The reality of what has happened over the past 15 years is not the reality, but the demand is to be there.

I repeat myself, what I like the most is that we are in the Champions League and everyone is still dissatisfied with the situation. This is what we need if we want to move forward as a club and as a team.

First, acknowledge the good work many people have done to achieve this. The second thing is what I love the most is that even getting there with six games to go, which I don’t think has happened in over a decade at this club, we are still not satisfied. We are still upset and want more. We want the club to be constantly with the best mentality and that’s what I liked the most in the last few days.

Arsenal return to the Premier League on Tuesday with a London derby in the Emirates against struggling Chelsea, who themselves are winless in their last eight matches.

Asked if he is still proud of his teams’ performance this season, Arteta replied: Yes, because we have achieved what is hard to achieve and we can still achieve the Premier League.

There are five games left and a lot of things are still going to happen. What we need to do is forget what happened last week, learn from it and move on to the next game with a full tilt at home with our people (in) a London derby and put things right order.

The absence of key defender William Saliba due to a back injury coincided with Arsenal’s poor form and Arteta was again given an update on the state of the French.

(It’s) quite similar, Arteta added. He won’t be involved tomorrow. We have to wait for the next game to see where we are. He hasn’t improved at all this week.
