Todd Fisher has denied claims by his niece Billie Lourds that he tried to capitalize on the death of his late sister Carrie Fisher.
The 65-year-old director was slammed by Scream Queens actress Billie, 30, who also denounced her aunts Joely Fisher, 55, and Tricia Leigh Fisher, 54, on Wednesday (03.05.23) for the way they dealt with the aftermath of his mother’s death in December 2016, and Todd has now spoken out to defend himself against her claims.
He told Page Six: I never capitalized on the death of Carrie or my mother Debbie (Reynolds), nor did I mean to hurt Billie in any way…and that’s the truth.
Billie had said: A few days after my mother died, her brother and sister chose to address their grief publicly and capitalize on my mother’s death, doing several interviews and selling individual books for big bucks , with the death of my mother and grandmother as the subject.
She also blamed her uncle and aunts for not consulting her or thinking about how it would affect our relationship before speaking publicly about Carries’ death, saying she chose to deal with the loss of her mother in a very different way.
Todd, who published the book My Girls: A Lifetime with Carrie and Debbie in 2018, insists Billies’ father, Bryan Lourd, was well aware months before its release.
He added that the autobiography was a loving and truthful tribute to the incredible lives (not the dead) of Carrie and Mom and the 60-plus years I spent with them.
Todd said: I was unaware of Billie’s necessary clearances, which came 40 years later.
Carrie died aged 60 after suffering a heart attack and falling into a coma, and her mother, Singin in the Rain actress Debbie, who played Kathy Selden in the iconic 1952 classic, is died the next day at the age of 84.
Billie confirmed that the actions of Todds and her aunts were the reason she didn’t invite them to her late Star Wars actress’ Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony on Tuesday. (01.05.23)
Joely and Tricia said on Instagram that they weren’t invited: This is something Carrie would definitely have wanted her siblings to attend. The fact that his only brother and two sisters were intentionally and deliberately excluded is deeply shocking.
