Donald Trump has hit back at Bill Barr after the former attorney general predicted it would be “chaos” and a “horror spectacle” if the Republican was re-elected president.
Writing on Truth Social, Trump accused Barr of being a ‘weak and neglectful man’ who wanted ‘nothing to do’ with promoting the former president’s false claims that the 2020 election was ‘rigged’. .
Barr resigned as attorney general in December 2020 after Trump continued to falsely suggest that the election he lost to Joe Biden was “stolen” due to widespread voter fraud, even after Barr publicly stated that the Justice Department found no evidence to support the claims.
Since then, Barr has become a frequent critic of Trump, including in his 2022 memoir, One Damn Thing After Another.

Appearing Friday at a luncheon at the City Club in Cleveland, Ohio, Fox News’ Geraldo Rivera asked Barr if the man who is the frontrunner to clinch the GOP nomination in 2024 is “fit” to be president again.
“If you believe in his policies — what he claims are his policies — he’s the last person who could actually execute them and make them happen,” Barr said. “He doesn’t have the discipline, he doesn’t have the ability to think strategically or linearly, set priorities or get things done in the system.
“It’s a horror show when he’s on his own. You might want his policies, but Trump won’t implement Trump’s policies. He will bring chaos.”
In response, Trump attacked his former ally and the work he did as attorney general, and suggested he actually fired Barr from his post at the end of 2020.
“Bill Barr was a weak, neglected man who was ill-equipped to be Attorney General because he was literally afraid of the radical left Democrats and everything they threatened to do to him. He did well with Russia. , Russia, Russia, hoax, but it should have been eliminated, as Democrat Con Job invented, much faster,” Trump wrote.
“Barr was very scared of anything to do with the rigged election because he knew it was that topic, more than anything else, that the Democrats didn’t even want to think about.
“They got away with ‘murder’ so no more talk about getting caught. They wanted it OVER! I got really hard on Bill Barr and pushed him to do his job , but he just couldn’t get over his fear of the radical left – He was useless. I ‘kindly’ fired him. Trump added.
In a one-word response to Barr’s remarks he made in Ohio, a Trump campaign spokesperson previously told Newsweek via email, “Who?”
This isn’t the first time Barr and Trump have traded verbal jabs.
In a March 2022 interview with NBC to promote his memoir, Barr described how Trump “showed a detachment from reality” after the 2020 election, including accepting a conspiracy theory that Dominion voting machines were being used. to rig the ballots.
“He was willing to accept anything, no matter how fanciful, as long as it didn’t make him an election loser,” Barr said.
Barr added that Trump was the “craziest I’ve ever seen him” when he handed him his letter of resignation over what the then-Attorney General described as allegations of “bull* ***”.
In response, Trump said Barr “collapsed under the pressure and bowed to the radical left” by not accepting the false election claims.
“Now he’s crawling in front of the media, hoping to gain the acceptance he doesn’t deserve,” Trump said.
Trump also claimed that it is “incorrect and a total fabrication” that Barr tendered his resignation and that he was the one who asked for it.
“I never said, ‘You must hate Trump,’ I said, ‘If you haven’t seen the corruption in the election, so much of which has already come to light (and massive amounts up to this date), then you are not capable of being Attorney General. You have neither the energy nor the courage to oppose the radical left. Please give me your letter of resignation”, said Trump.
