The military special task force, Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), which provides security in Kaduna, has dismissed allegations of bias made against the outfit by a southern Kaduna group, the Zangon Kataf Youth Christian Association of Nigeria,
In a statement on Friday, seen by PREMIUM TIMES, Oya James, captain and media information officer for OPSH, said the military would not be distracted in its quest to protect lives and property in the south of Kaduna.
Our attention has been drawn to a misleading video report that has gone viral on social media captioning the South Kaduna community killings and accusing the military of compromise.
The allegation was made through a certain Reverend Victor Yahaya, head of the Christian Youth Association of Nigeria Zango Kataf Local Government Area.
The entire story was created to distract the military from carrying out their duties of protecting life and property.
OPSH is shocked that a cleric who should embody leadership and good example in every way could maliciously accuse the military of compromise.
This is very regrettable especially when it is glaring that the army has mastered the pace of attacks in the southern Kaduna area of Kaduna State, he added.
He called on the public to continue to support OPSH with the information needed to effectively address security issues in the region.
As a noble institution, OPSH is neutral and would in no way compromise its constitutional roles.
Earlier, the Zagon Kataf Youth Christian Association of Nigeria accused the army of not reacting quickly to terrorist attacks in the region.
The allegation was made through a certain Victor Yahaya, the head of the Christian Youth Association of Nigeria Zango Kataf Local Government Area.
Range of Kataf attacks
Two weeks ago, PREMIUM TIMES reported an attack on residents of Zangon Kataf by terrorists. Several residents were killed in the attack.
The president of the Atyap Community Development Association, a community organization in the area, Sam Timbuwak, said the first killings took place in the AtakNjei community.
He said the gunmen invaded the community from a nearby bush and began firing indiscriminately, killing eight people in the process.
A few days later, another attack was launched against the population and around 27 inhabitants were killed.
Thousands of people have been killed or kidnapped in Zangon Kataf in southern Kaduna which is experiencing an upsurge in terror attacks
Kaduna in recent years has witnessed attacks by various armed groups. The killings continued despite the efforts of the security forces.
