Iranian parliament speaker rejects claims that lawmakers received luxury SUVs

Qalibaf said on Sunday that the Parliament’s Security Council and the Representatives’ Behavior Oversight Council had reviewed the allegations and concluded that claims about the link between SUVs and the impeachment vote were purely false.

But he added that the relevant authorities had been advised to investigate the supply of the vehicles.

An Iranian lawmaker, Alireza Beigi, has previously claimed that former minister of industry, mines and trade, Reza Fatemi-Amin, who was recently impeached in parliament and removed from office, had facilitated the access of a number of lawmakers to luxury SUVs to withdraw their impeachment votes.

A special inspector appointed by Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi investigated the allegations but later claimed that although the SUVs were handed over to lawmakers, the development happened before the Raisis administration took office.

Beigi recently said he was in possession of documents proving the case and claimed that some of the lawmakers’ relatives also received cars.
