‘I’ll be better on Monday’: Klay Thompson blamed for 6 inexcusable turnovers in Game 3 loss

The Golden State Warriors were humiliated by the LA Lakers in Game 3 of the Western Conference Semifinals. Speaking after the game, veteran Klay Thompson took responsibility for the loss and said the Warriors needed to be more careful with the ball. Thompson cited his 6 turnovers as one of the main reasons the Warriors were blown away.

The defending champions lost 127-97 after winning Game 2. They are now losing the series 2-1 and are just two games away from being knocked out.

Klay Thompson takes responsibility after Warriors Game 3 loss

The Golden State Warriors’ starting lineup recorded a total of 10 turnovers, compared to 8 for the Lakers. Among them, Klay Thompson committed SIX.

The Warriors found themselves facing a determined and physical defense that made shooting chances hard to come by all night. Thompson finished with just 15 points after converting just 5 of 14 field goal attempts.

His 5 turnovers were also the highest he had ever recorded in a playoff game. The House of Highlights shared the post-match interview clip on their YouTube channel. When questioned, Thompson claimed that the loss and the high turnovers were his responsibility:

I think turnovers and our fouls, that’s on me, you know, playoff career high, 6 turnovers, inexcusable. Monday I will be better and more sure of the ball, and I will make better decisions. I can’t send them to live up to 37 times, that’s way too much. So on Monday, those are going to be the things we’ll be emphasizing on, you know, being sure of the ball and limiting our rotations.

Warriors now have an uphill battle to fight back against Lakers

The Warriors were way too casual with the ball and had way too many easy turnovers. This has been an issue that Dub Nation has struggled with all season.

As the LA Lakers gain form and power at the right time, the Warriors know they can’t rely on the brilliant Curry alone to get them through. Stephen Curry finished with 23 points in Game 3 but also struggled with his efficiency.

He only converted 9 of his 21 attempts on the night. The Warriors’ offense struggled to convert shots all night, which was partly due to the Lakers’ solid defense. In a video shared by NBC Sports, Thompson even claimed that the Warriors got screwed at night:

Among the starters, Andrew Wiggins finished with 16 points and a 54.5% save percentage. He was their most effective offensive player of the night.

While the Lakers are undoubtedly a tough team to beat when in form, the Warriors’ high turnovers and poor shooting mean they themselves are to blame for their struggles thus far.
