Spider-Man: No Way Home brought back a range of characters from the previous two franchises, including Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.
The rift in the multiverse created by the fate of Doctor Strange brought in villains from previous films, but the third Spider-Man movie in the MCU didn’t feature James Franco’s Harry Osborn, who becomes the Green Goblin in Spider-Man 3 Willem Dafoe appears in No Way Home as Green Goblin.

Although he died at the end of the Raimi Trilogy, other deceased characters also returned for No Way Home, so they could have found a way to bring James Franco into the multiverse. The people summoned to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man world were random, which perfectly explains why Harry didn’t appear.
It’s never been explained why Franco didn’t appear, but many believe Disney didn’t want to bring back an actor with so many sexual misconduct allegations against him.
The film would gross over $1.9 billion worldwide, surpassing its predecessor as the highest-grossing film released by Sony Pictures.
How James Franco’s sexual misconduct allegations hurt his film career via filing footage
In June 2021, James Franco settled a sexual misconduct lawsuit for $2.2 million after he and his business partner Vince Jolivette were accused of engaging in “widespread inappropriate and sexually charged behavior towards female students in sexualizing their power as a teacher and employer by dangling the opportunity for roles in their projects” at drama school that the couple once ran together.
The disturbing allegations indicated that Franco hinted at roles available to female students if they were to perform sexual acts or were willing to take their clothes off. Even more disturbing were allegations that he faked sex acts on students with the necessary guards in place.
The actor and director also made headlines after he tried to arrange a meeting with a 17-year-old girl at a New York hotel in 2014.
