The SIT tries to ignore all the testimonies that indicate that Darshan was a victim of caste discrimination from his roommate, classmates and others at the institute and was deeply affected by it. The SIT, which investigates the crime of incitement to suicide and caste atrocity, does not even look at the angle of caste discrimination and instead blamed a student in a separate case, a statement released in Mumbai by the Darshans father, Rameshbhai Solanki said.

Solanki, when releasing the statement, was accompanied by former MP Dr Bhalchandra Mungekar.

Dr Mungekar said: “The SIT deliberately discards the angle of caste discrimination for reasons it knows best. The caste-based system and its existence on the campus of IIT caused Darshans’ death. Alleging that the SIT is trying to cover up caste-based discrimination, Rameshbhai’s statement which is sent to the Chief Minister, Home Minister, Commissioner of Police as well as the National Scheduled Caste Commission, demands a immediate intervention so that crucial evidence is not lost.

According to Darshan’s sister, Janvi Solanki, the family did not receive cloned copies of the seized electronic devices, even after repeatedly asking for them. We are concerned that more such examples that may show he was discriminated against on the basis of caste will be buried under the guise of an investigation, the statement read.
