Delhi Police informed a special court here on Friday that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) had been formed to investigate allegations of sexual harassment made by women wrestlers against WFI President Brij Bhushan Singh.
The submission was made before Metropolitan Additional Chief Magistrate Harjeet Singh Jaspal in response to the court’s earlier order directing police to file a stratus report.
“Given the seriousness of the case, we have formed an SIT. The SIT will investigate the case,” prosecutor Atul Srivastava told the court, saying a status report had been filed on the case. He asked that the report not be shared with anyone given the nature of the case. The report was filed by Delhi police under seal. After submission, the court released the case for a rehearing on May 27.
The judge issued a notice to the Delhi Police following a plea by the wrestlers asking for the monitoring of the investigation and the recording of the statement of the alleged victims in court. Wrestlers demanded Singh’s arrest, accusing him of sexually exploiting several female wrestlers, including a minor.
Delhi Police filed two FIRs including one under Section 10 of the POCSO against the BJP MP who denied all charges.
