An architecture critic sells his apartment in one of New York’s most popular buildings. Paul Goldberger, who won a Pulitzer Prize for architecture criticism in The New York Times and is the author of several books, has put his nine-bedroom co-op at 211 Central Park West on the market for $8,950,000. The Beresford’s spacious apartment boasts pre-war proportions and character, a newly refurbished chef’s kitchen, views of Central Park and an iconic address.

A semi-private landing leads to an expansive gallery, ideal for any collector wishing to display their favorite pieces. Preserved design features such as herringbone flooring and custom millwork are found throughout the home.

Across the gallery is the living room, which faces the treetops of Central Park across the street and is filled with natural light. The spacious room can accommodate a variety of layouts, centered by a wood-burning fireplace. Next to it is a library with built-in bookshelves and further views of the park.

A dining room with an additional seating area leads to the chef’s kitchen, which has been recently remodeled and features all high end appliances. Next to this room is a staff bedroom with a shower room and a laundry room.

At the other end of the apartment are the bedrooms, including the corner master suite overlooking the park. The master bedroom has two en-suite bathrooms and several closets. The two additional bedrooms face 82nd Street and share a full bathroom.

Located at the corner of Central Park West and 81st Street, the Beresford was designed by famed New York architect Emery Roth in 1929. Roth was the mastermind behind many of New York’s classic buildings and along the West Side from Central Park, including El Dorado and San Remo.

The 22-storey Beresford is made up of three buildings, distinguished by three towers. The apartments in the building are known to be large with high ceilings and fireplaces. The building is one of New York’s most recognizable, a distinctive feature of the Central Park West skyline.
