DeSantis accuses Disney of pulling out of Florida

In a statement released by his press office, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis squarely blamed Disney and its business practices for pulling out of the Lake Nona development deal. However, many Floridians seem to disagree with the Republican governor.

The battle between The Walt Disney Company and Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis has been unfolding for over a year now, with multiple lawsuits, threats and political actions taken against each other. Now, it looks like Disney has made its biggest move yet by pulling out of a lucrative construction contract in the Lake Nona community.

Disney planned to move over a thousand Imagineers to Florida and have them live in an office building in Lake Nona. It would have created tens of thousands of jobs in the Sunshine State as well as more than $1 billion in

Unfortunately for the state, Disney has now backed out of that deal and also announced that it will be closing the Star Wars: Galactic Star Cruiser hotel, removing any potential financial benefits that would result. Although there seemed to be a plethora of factors influencing this decision, DeSantis blamed the House of Mouse squarely.

In response to the news that Disney was pulling out of its Lake Nona development deal, DeSantis’ press office released a statement:

“Disney announced the possibility of a Lake Nona campus nearly two years ago. The project never came to fruition and the state was unsure whether it would materialize. Given the financial difficulties of the company, falling market capitalization and declining share price, it is no surprise that it is restructuring its business operations and canceling unsuccessful ventures.

While there is some truth to what DeSantis’ office has said, it appears he is trying to completely remove himself from the situation as he prepares for his presidential bid. However, that doesn’t seem to be working, as people across the country blame DeSantis for destroying Florida.

While Ron DeSantis has been clear on his opinion on the matter and the Walt Disney Company partially agrees with him, many Disney employees and Florida residents disagree with that sentiment.

Former Walt Disney Imagineering President Robert Weis said in a LinkedIn post, “Florida is a great place to work and live. But after Covid, and so many other things, there was nothing more damaging to Imagineering’s legacy and unparalleled incredible talent than this chapter…”

Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings expressed that sentiment when he said, “It is unfortunate that Disney is not moving forward with construction of the Lake Nona campus. However, these are the consequences when there is no inclusive and collaborative work environment between the State of Florida and the business community. We will continue to work closely with our valued partners at Disney. »

In a more humorous vein, Podcast: The Ride shared a tweet from user @ScottGustin, commenting, “Uh, actually, we didn’t actually want the billion dollars, because we consider those dollars to be “Woke Bucks” that are worthless in Florida, so bring them back to Hollywood. Plus, we can’t wait to inspect the monorails. For, uh, gay engines.

Needless to say, this is a complicated question that seems to have factors coming from all sides. More details will be provided as they are revealed.
