Return: Michael Vaughan will be back on BBC cricket coverage this summer (PA)
Michael Vaughan is set to return to the BBC this summer.
The former England captain is set to be part of Beeb’s coverage of the upcoming Ashes home series and England’s one-off warm-up test against Ireland at Lord’s which begins on June 1.
Vaughan’s return to the BBC airwaves comes after a Cricket Disciplinary Committee (CDC) hearing in March cleared him of allegations he made a racist comment towards a group of Asian teammates while he was a player at Yorkshire.
Vaughan is said to have referred to a group of four players – Adil Rashid, Azeem Rafiq, Rana Naved-ul-Hasan and Ajmal Shahzad – during a squad rally ahead of a T20 game against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge in 2009.
However, Vaughan flatly denied saying so, and an independent CDC panel said it was not satisfied, on a balance of probabilities, that the comment was made.
He had previously been a staple of BBC cricket coverage, although he stepped down from his role for the second time last summer after being charged by the ECB.
Vaughan first stepped down from BBC commentary duties for the 2021-22 series Ashes in Australia after being named in the Yorkshires report which followed former spin caster Rafiqs’ allegations of racist treatment at the club.
It then returned in March 2022 before falling back again three months later following the ECB accusation.
The BBC has confirmed that Vaughan will be featured on flagship radio show Test Match Special (TMS) over the next summer as well as on their Today at the Test TV show for the game against Ireland.
