The public approval rating of Disney PLUMMETS; is Disney’s political agenda to blame?

This does NOT sound great for the Walt Disney Company.

As most fans know, this has been a pretty hectic year for Disney. This year, the company has suffered major problems inside and outside its parks. With 2023 only halfway through, the company has already dealt with major PR disasters, park malfunctions and less-than-spectacular box office performances. On top of everything, Disney has become national news due to its feud with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

Now, a new poll shows Disney’s turbulent year may not have worked in the public’s favor. The company’s already low “reputation rating” plummeted in 2023, causing the company’s fans to be concerned.

Disney fails to conquer the public majority

The Walt Disney Co. has been a household name for decades, known for its beloved characters, magical theme parks and sprawling entertainment empire. However, behind the scenes, the company has also made its mark in the world of politics, often with controversial decisions and actions. From its self-governing status to its involvement in political battles, Disney has had its fair share of time in the news spotlight.

Now Disney is making headlines for all the wrong reasons. Recent data from the Axios Harris Poll 100 Reputation Rankings 2023 shows Disney occupying an unfavorable place in the hearts of the public this year. According to Axios Harris Poll, “This survey is the result of a partnership between Axios and Harris Poll to assess the reputation of America’s most visible brands, based on 20 years of Harris Poll research.”

In 2019, during Disney CEO Bob Iger’s first term, the company rated a score above 80, which would rank public perception as “Excellent.” Disney maintained that lead throughout Mr. Iger’s tenure until 2021, when the rating dropped 40 places. Last year in 2022, The Walt Disney Company finished with a 73.4, 65th on the list. In 2023, Disney fell another 12 spots and ended up with a score of 70.0.

Is Disney to blame

Many fans immediately blame Disney’s political agenda for affecting public opinion. Disney has polarized many of its fans with its “woke agenda,” and many fans feel caught between liking Disney and liking different politics. Many believe the company’s involvement in American politics has taken them further and further away from the wholesome image that fans have loved in the past. It’s too late not to take a step back from current Disney affairs, especially those involving the Central Florida Legislature, but Disney’s stepping back from politics is definitely something to watch in the future.
