LETTER: Don’t blame Williams; blame the leftists

Congressman Brandon Williams has never presented himself as anything other than a conservative despite the opinion of our leftist socialist brethren. He is not at all an “extremist” as the left tries to portray him, but rather a congressman who respects the Constitution as written.

He does not ignore it as our leftists so often do.

Williams is right to support the Republican debt ceiling bill that would cut the wasteful spending that our leftists are so fond of. Some of our comrades on the left are trying to stretch the 14th Amendment’s reference to the current debt. They forget that the 14th Amendment refers to Civil War debt.

The Civil War ended in 1865 with the surrender of General Robert E. Lee’s forces, and that debt has long since been repaid. Leftists hate any expense that isn’t part of their largesse to people who don’t want to make a living.

It is not the taxpayers’ responsibility to take care of those who do not want to earn a living. It is up to individuals – based on their own ability to contribute – to fund these charities. Add to that that the “rich” are already paying their fair share to the federal treasury. It’s time for everyone to pay something to the treasury, because they should have “some skin in the game”.

It is not the Republicans who are radicals but the left-wing socialists who try to pervert the Constitution and its intent.
