Chris Jericho has been one of AEW’s biggest and most featured names since day one, though he hasn’t been immune to criticism over the years. However, Jericho isn’t too happy with some of the reviews, especially regarding the fact that it doesn’t feature young talent. Jericho spoke in an interview with Sporf’s Joe Baiamonte about the subject.
It’s funny when I get buried online for burying the young guys it’s like you really don’t understand what I’m doing and you don’t even really watch the show because it’s the exact opposite of that.
He then discussed the AEW Double or Nothing World Championship featuring the four mainstays of AEW – MJF, Sammy Guevara, Darby Allin and Jungle Boy, all of whom have worked with Jericho in the past.
And I think we did a great job building these guys. To have four of them in the main event and see how they all blossomed as talkers because they can still struggle, but character and speaking is the most important thing. So I really appreciate that aspect of seeing these guys in this place. That’s why I worked with Max for a year and why I’ve had Sammy with me pretty much since he joined the business, except for a few months. These guys were always meant to be stars. And Darby and Jungle Boy too, I worked with them the first few months of AEW and realized they were both amazing.
Jericho has actually put several names in AEW such as Ricky Starks, Orange Cassidy, and Jon Moxley, although as far as some of the names he mentioned, he has been on shows with MJF, Allin, and Jungle Boy.
