The ANC has welcomed President Cyril Ramaphosa’s appointment of an independent panel to investigate allegations that the country supplied arms and ammunition to Russia, saying it was necessary to clarify the allegations “once for all” because they had the potential to harm the country’s diplomatic relations. and economic relations.

“Countries have gone to war over allegations that they have weapons of mass distraction that ultimately were never found, so we didn’t want this to continue. We must prove that it happened or did not happen and take appropriate action,” said ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula.

Mbalula was speaking to the media on Sunday on the sidelines of the ANC national working committee’s visit to the North West, where the party leadership has engaged its regional and sectoral structures.
