The makers of the Malayalam film ‘Binary’ had recently made serious allegations against actor Joy Mathew. Producer Jasik Ali and co-producer Rajesh Babu have accused Joy Mathew of throwing out the film’s script. They also alleged that the actor threw the costume in the costume designer’s face because it had a sambar stain on it.
Now Joy Mathew has provided an explanation. In her Facebook post, Joy Mathew said he threw away the script after seeing foul language dialogue linking Kerala’s chief minister and a female character who is a smuggler.
“On noticing vulgar language dialogues linking the Chief Minister of Kerala and a female character who is a smuggler, I said I would not utter those lines. The director then told me that the film would only become a success if current political issues were included in it. As an actor, I’m not ready to accept that something unrelated to the story is forced into the script. (There may be many disagreements. There may be criticism. But no matter what, the Chief Minister of Kerala belongs to all of us.) So, I wanted to burn the script. But I didn’t because I didn’t have a lighter with me. Therefore, I threw it away,’ wrote Joy Mathew.
Referring to the allegation that he threw the costume in the costume designer’s face, Joy Mathew said the allegation was only partially true.
“The allegation that I threw the costume in the face of the costume designer is only partially true. There is a fix in there. I threw the costume in a corner of the room and not in front of the costume designer. The coat I was given had sambar stains on it. I have no problem using such a coat if my character is supposed to have such a patch on the coat. However, the character I played in the film was a person returning from the United States. I don’t think anyone in the US washes their coat after soaking it in sambar. Later, I performed in that scene wearing my own shirt,’ Joy Mathew added.
