Defense Minister Khawaja Asif (left) and former Finance Minister Miftah Ismail. – APP/Reuters/FileAsif asks Miftah to take the side in confidence on the suggestions. Minister says economic situation cannot afford Miftah criticism.
Defense Minister Khawaja Asif slammed Miftah Ismail, a former finance minister and leader of the Pakistani Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), for his criticism of the government’s economic policies, saying “loyalty becomes a business when ‘it is conditional’.
Since being replaced by his party colleague, Senator Ishaq Dar, as finance minister in September last year, Miftah has criticized the economic policies of the incumbent government.
The former financial czar also blamed Dar’s policies for the delay in reviving the stalled International Monetary Fund (IMF) program and raised concerns that the country was heading towards default.
“Dear brother Miftah Ismail, we hear your comments on the economic conditions in Pakistan since you resigned from the ministry. He [Miftah] is part of PML-N, the party can directly benefit from his knowledge, his ability is unquestionable,” the Minister of Defense said in a detailed statement on his Twitter account.
Asif said the current economic situation could not afford Miftah’s criticism of government policies on TV shows.
“His suggestions can also be useful to the government if he also puts the party in confidence and remembers the good times and the association [with the party]added the Federal Minister.
He also reminded the ex-finance minister that the PML-N had twice “assigned” the finance ministry to him.
“There may be a grievance to remove him from the ministry, but there is no justification for targeting the party,” the senior PML-N official said.
Asif said honorable politicians are vindicated after going through tough times.
“Loyalty becomes business when it is conditional. I’m sorry, I had to resort to social media because the review series became a media star,” he added.
During his tenure at Q Block, Miftah Ismail, a Ph.D. in economics from the Wharton School, made important and difficult decisions that convinced the IMF to release nearly $2 billion pending due to the blocked bailout package signed in 2019 by the PTI government. .
He was appreciated for his hard work by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in reviving the much needed loan program.
