CHINIOT: The Superintendent of Chiniot Government High School Intermediate Examination Center filed a complaint with the city police station against Ijaz Waince, principal of a private college, for attacking the center and threatening examination staff.
According to Superintendent Afzaal Mubashar, the incident happened during the Urdu newspaper when Mr Waince, accompanied by his college staff and some students, broke into the center, abused the staff and made threats of serious consequences.
The Faisalabad Office of Intermediate and Secondary Examinations (BISE) office has been informed about the incident. BISE Resident Inspector Muhammad Yaqoob also arrived on the scene.
The police were called and upon arrival the suspects fled. Mr. Mubashar, fearing for his life and the safety of his staff, requested the registration of a case against the accused and asked for the security of the center.
The Punjab Professors Lecturers Association (PPLA) condemned the incident. In a meeting held at the Government Islamia College, chaired by District Chairman Imran Zahid, the PPLA expressed outrage at the hooliganism and threats directed against Mr Mubashar and his staff by the director of the private college and his associates. They demanded the registration of a file and the arrest of the culprits.
The PPLA also issued a resolution, signed by 40 teachers, urging authorities to take action to ensure the safety and security of exam staff. The resolution warned that if their demands were not met, they would boycott the conduct of the exams and escalate protests across the province.
Mr Waince, however, refuted the allegations, saying the superintendent had refused extra answer sheets to students at his college for several days. In response, he contacted the BISE exam controller, who advised him to meet with the resident inspector.
According to Mr. Waince, he met Mr. Yaqoob at his office where the Superintendent also arrived and expressed concern over the failure to provide additional answer sheets.
After receiving assurance from BISE agents, he canceled the protest. He denied entering the exam center or threatening exam staff.
Some college students have also spoken to the media, alleging center staff are depriving them of excellent grades by not providing additional answer sheets when those provided are completed.
They pointed out that the college had already held prominent positions on the council and in the Chiniot district.
