Sergio Perez started the race on the mediums with everyone except his teammate on the softs. It looked difficult for Checo to overtake the cars on his first stint, and at one point he was stuck behind Fernando Alonso for a long time. However, when Alonso pitted, Checo looked free, lasted long on his first run and his second run was still respectable as he finished P5.
