The titular Thor star, Chris Hemsworth, recently sat down with GQ UK to discuss his career and specifically his longtime involvement with Marvel.
Asked about the reviews the fourth Thor film received, Hemsworth admitted to the publication that Love and Thunder was a little too comedic, “I think we just had too much fun. It just got too silly. It’s always hard to be in the middle of it all and get a real perspective…I love the process, it’s always a ride. But you just don’t know how people are going to react. All in all, Hemsworth has starred in eight Marvel movies and while he’s not under contract to any other projects in the MCU, he says he’ll return if there’s an opportunity. In the meantime, he hopes to do “some other stuff for a while” He added: “Love the experience. I like the fact that I was able to do something quite different throughout the process. Thor 1 and 2 were their own thing, Thor 3 and 4 were a very different feel… and then even Avengers, the Lebowski Thor, the Infinity War Thor, due to different directors and I think mostly my own need to do something something different.
Hemsworth also spoke about the criticism Marvel has received from top filmmakers Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino. In the past, Tarantino has blamed the decline of movie stars on the “wonder-ization of Hollywood,” saying, “You have all these actors who rose to fame playing these characters. But they are not movie stars. Hemsworth admitted the comments were heartbreaking, calling them “super depressing when I hear that.” He added, “Here are two of my heroes that I won’t be working with. I guess they’re not a fan of me. Standing on his MCU turf, Hemsworth said, “I’m grateful to have been a part of something. thing that kept people in theaters. Now whether or not those movies were at the expense of other movies, I don’t know. I don’t like it when we start scrutinizing each other when there’s has so much fragility in the business and in this arts space as it is… I say that less to the directors who made these comments, who are all, by the way, still my heroes, and in a heartbeat eye, I’d jump to work with any of them. But I’m saying it more to the broader opinion around this topic. I don’t think any of us have the answer, but we’re trying.
